Public elementary and middle schools in Wheeling comprise of five elementary schools (Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, Booth Tarkington, Mark Twain, and Eugene Field) and three middle schools (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jack London, and Cooper). The following schools are part of Wheeling Community Consolidated School District 21.

In addition to students from District 21, a small portion of students from Prospect Heights School District 23 attend Wheeling High School. Elementary schools in this district include Betsy Ross (2-3), Anne Sullivan (4-5), Dwight D. Eisenhower (PreK-1), and the middle school in this district includes Douglas MacArthur (6-8).

Public high schools include Wheeling High School, along with a small portion of Wheeling students who attend Buffalo Grove High School. Both schools belong to Township High School District 214, which is Illinois second largest high school district by enrollment.

Private schools in the area include J. Slowacki School (PreK-11), East Capitol High School (9-12), St. Viator High School (9-12), and Alphonsus Liguori School (K-8).

Community College includes William Rainey Harper College.

HIFE College Planning supports the efforts of high school students and parents by helping families accurately assess their child’s aptitudes and interests. The Heartland Institute’s College Planning Coaches work directly with students by using these assessments to select the proper major and proper college. Not selecting a suitable major or appropriate college will, often times, cause 4-year degree program to take 5 years, or even longer!
